8th Annual Comedy for a Cure.
A NIGHT OF LAUGHTER AND FUN TO RAISE FUNDS AND AWARENESS FOR THE TUBEROUS SCLEROSIS ALLIANCE
This years event was headlined by comedian Jeffrey Ross with honorary event chair Melina Kanakaredes.
Comedy for a Cure 2009, benefiting the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, is presented by UCB and Lundbeck Inc. Jon Shook and Vinnie Dotolo of Animal restaurant will cater the event.
Since 2003, Comedy for a Cure has raised more than $1.5 million to support research and programs/services for the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance and families affected by TSC. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes potentially fatal tumors to form on children's vital organs and affects one in 6,000 children. Comedy for a Cure will commence with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a critically acclaimed live auction, and include a special musical performance by Truth & Salvage, only to be topped off with a hilarious performance by comedy superstar Jeffrey Ross.
ABOUT TUBEROUS SCLEROSIS COMPLEX:
Every 20 minutes a child is born with TSC. It can strike any family, at any time without warning, and for no known reason. TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in vital organs such as the brain, heart, skin, kidneys, eyes and lungs. Serious health problems include epilepsy, autism, heart disease, mental retardation, facial disfigurement, kidney failure, lung disease, and even death. Not coincidentally, the possibility of a cure is closer than ever. And because TSC is the leading genetic cause of epilepsy and autism, every dollar raised to find a cure and better treatments for TSC can also mean a better understanding of epilepsy and autism, even cancer diseases that touch most everyone all of us know and love.
The Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance was founded in 1974 by parents of children with TSC who saw the need to educate the public and the medical community about the disorder. Today, the TS Alliance is able to provide its constituents with the most up-to-date information about the disorder while awarding grants for research that will eventually result in a cure. The TS Alliance is the only national health organization in the United States dedicated to finding a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex while improving the lives of those affected.
